My friends had always discussed the dangers of osteoporosis, but I never took the issue seriously until a few months ago. I was getting out of the shower in the morning when I slipped and went sprawling across the bathroom floor. I somehow managed to get to the phone to call an ambulance. Later, after a trip to the emergency room, I learned about the hairline fracture on my hip.
These days I’m getting along just fine thanks to the aid of a walking cane and other independent living aids. I took my daughter and two granddaughters aside and encouraged them to drink milk and take extra calcium supplements to encourage strong, healthy bones. They should be able to learn from my mistakes without repeating them when they begin to grow older.
My boyfriend’s dad is a retired undercover police detective and he has lots of funny gadgets for men that he used to use for covert operations. One day when my boyfriend and I were just hanging out we got a bored and decided to look through his dad’s old stuff. We came across a voice changer and started playing around with it.
We thought it was so cool to make our voices sound different and we wanted to test it out to see if people could recognize us. It was his idea to make some prank calls. The first call we made was to one of his buddies, and low and behold he didn’t recognize our voices. We never got to make anymore calls because his dad walked in on the end of the first one. Needless to say, he didn’t approve.
Before you child is ready to hit the road on a bike, he/she will most likely cruise the neighborhood on a trike. Trikes, or tricycles, are three-wheeled bikes, meaning they are more stable for your youngster and a great segue to a standard two-wheeled bike.
Bust just because a trike is more stable does not mean it is completely safe. Therefore, when your little speed demon takes to the streets, keep these tips in mind.
~Always, always have your child wear a helmet. There is no excuse and no exception. Your kid might not reach the speed or height of an adult bike, but that doesn’t mean he/she can’t get hurt. If your child is worried about looking cool, consider getting them a Nogin Sox cover for the helmet.
~Be present when they ride. As an added bonus, it’s a great time to squeeze in that extra exercise. While they are peddling around the block, follow on foot. This way, they’re safe, and you’re healthy.
~Make sure the trike is a good fit. Your kid is growing quickly, so make sure the trike is still a safe size. Too big or too small can be awkward and, consequently, unsafe.
All in all, use general bike safety rules and common sense, and your kid will have an enjoyable and exciting toy.
Parents love to show off pictures of their kids, and why not-those little buggers are so cute! Often times, I have asked my coworkers to see pictures of their children. I notice that women often struggle to sort through the refuse in their purses and men rifle through their cluttered wallets in order to find their kid’s pics.
When it’s such a hassle to find your kid’s pictures, why even carry them around. And it’s not just pictures that people have difficulty finding. Admittedly, men have it easier, as there is less opportunity for things to become lost in a wallet or pocket. It’ll take some extra effort, however, to get your purse organized. I like to use purse inserts, which allow you to compartmentalize all of your belongings; you can even remove the entire insert when you want to transfer your things from one carryall to another.
Over the holiday weekend some buddies and I went to a cabin in the foothills of the Cascades for a few days of solitude and relaxation—at least that was the intention. Despite our intentions for rest and relaxation, most of the weekend was spent hiking, fishing and taking advantage of the secluded lake just a few hundred feet from our lodgings. My favorite activity had to be the Aqua Skipper.
It’s difficult to describe the product, which is essentially a hybrid of a bicycle and pogo stick for the water. You propel the machine by hopping up and down of the pedals, so the vehicle doesn’t require any external source of power aside from your body. The Aqua Skipper is definitely fun, but after a few hours on it, you realize the immense amount of energy it takes to power the conveyance.
As a traveling salesman, I have to constantly be adapting to my current surroundings. When you live on the road, you never know when you are going to have an opportunity to clean your clothes and have a good meal, so being flexible is crucial. Now that I have been in the industry for 37 years, I’ve developed a few tricks and invested in some gadgets to help me out.
Auto clips have proven to be indispensible on my extended journeys. They clip to the handles in the back and allow me to hang up to 15 hangers at a time. You always have to look your best going from door to door, and auto clips help me do just that. Hopefully my son, Biff, will take after his old man so I can pass some of the trade knowledge on to him.
Some women love jewelry, perfume or shoes but the fashion accessories at the top of my list are purses. Nothing ties an outfit together like a purse, not to mention their pragmatic qualities, which is why my closet if brimming with them. The one drawback about switching purses on a daily basis is that I also have to transplant all of the contents.
This used to be a headache and even deterred me from carrying a purse on some occasions. Luckily, this is no longer an issue thanks to my new purse organizer. It keeps all of my things neatly compartmentalized, and when I need to switch purses, it lifts out with all of me things still ordered.
With summer just around the corner, I am already beginning to fantasize about long days spent on the beach. During my childhood, we were lucky enough to have a boat in my family, but with my current salary, any sort of watercraft is out of my budget. However, I am always looking for innovative and affordable toys and equipment to enhance my summer days at the beach.
When surfing the internet recently, I discovered a revolutionary new product known as the AquaSkipper. The user hopping up and down powers this water conveyance, so it doesn’t require any fuel or charging. Not only is the AquaSkipper a fun diversion, but since it is purely powered by your motion it also provides a thorough workout.
There’s little doubt that alcohol is one of the most widely abused substances, and getting clean from a physical addiction to the substance is one of the most difficult things to do. Not only does it take physical withdrawal, but it also takes a much longer emotional and mental road to recovery. This is because addiction is not just about your body’s need for the product. Although this, of course, plays a part, it’s also about your ability to mentally stop yourself from falling into old habits once you’re no longer physically dependent.
That’s why support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous often accompany alcohol detox. Places like this allow people to share their thoughts, concerns, and weaknesses, and that sharing and support system has been shown to greatly increase the likelihood that you won’t suffer a relapse. If you need other motivation to stay on track, ask your loved ones to keep an alcohol tester on hand.
One of the most popular security devices used at homes is the motion detector alarm. Motion detectors are always set in place to trigger an alarm. If the radar detects any movement or a beam of light is disrupted, the alarm will go off. This is the basic job of a motion detector. There are other uses of motion detectors aside from being an alarming device.
Automatic doors in groceries use motion detectors as well. Whenever a person steps in the way of the detector, the door opens. This works with lights as well. Especially those garage doors or porch lights that will automatically turn on when motion is detected. You won’t have to turn on any switch and the lights will turn off automatically as well after a few minutes.
